The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has sentenced three suspects linked to the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to life imprisonment.
The court found the suspects guilty of offences relating to the kidnapping incident involving pupils and staff of a school in Oriire.
Delivering judgment, the court held that the gravity of the offence warranted the maximum punishment prescribed by law, leading to the life sentence handed down to the convicts.
The abduction, which occurred in Oyo State, had sparked public concern and renewed calls for improved security measures around schools and vulnerable communities.
The prosecution had presented evidence linking the suspects to the crime, while the defence teams argued their positions during the trial.
After considering the submissions from both sides, the court ruled that the evidence before it was sufficient to establish the involvement of the accused persons in the offence.
