Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has won 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, secured 11 LGs in the Saturday governorship election.
Adeleke is awaiting the official declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission following the collation and announcement of results on Sunday.
A total of 15 political parties participated in the election, but only the Accord Party and the APC made a significant impact across the state.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 14,989 votes.
As of the time of filing the report, the state’s Returning Officer, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, was expected to make the final declaration at the INEC state collation centre in Osogbo.
The results showed Adeleke winning Boluwaduro, Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Ayedire, Egbedore, Ayedaade and Ejigbo.
Oyebamiji won Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
In the individual results, Adeleke recorded 36,480 votes in Osogbo against Oyebamiji’s 30,474, while he polled 35,427 votes in Ede North to Oyebamiji’s 10,283.
Adeleke also secured 27,201 votes in Ife East, 27,085 in Iwo, 26,188 in Ede South and 23,514 in Olorunda, where Oyebamiji narrowly led with 24,671 votes.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, recorded his highest result in Ejigbo, where he polled 5,053 votes.
