The Kebbi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sarki Zaki (SK), on Wednesday joined growing calls in support of Governor Nasir Idris’ second-term bid.

Zaki, in a chat with our correspondent in Birnin Kebbi, described Governor Idris’ three years in office as wonderful and unprecedented, citing the rapid transformation of critical sectors across Kebbi State.

He noted that the state had been left without the outlook of a befitting state capital despite 16 years of successive administrations.

He contended that Governor Idris came into office as a new-breed politician with the determination to transform all sectors requiring urgent attention.

“Before joining mainstream politics to broaden the scope of his humanitarian gestures and hard work, he was a committed unionist in both the NUT and the NLC, with remarkable achievements.

“That is why we are supporting him. Although we remain apolitical, there is nothing wrong with rallying round him to secure a second term in 2027,” he said.

Zaki noted that the governor’s aggressive reforms in the education sector, including the construction of new schools, renovation of existing ones, and the provision of furniture to improve learning in both urban and rural schools across the state, are reasons to support his continuity in office.

He added that the governor had further strengthened the education sector by employing over 2,000 teachers and ensuring regular capacity-building programmes to keep them abreast of modern teaching techniques.

The union leader also said the critical infrastructure put in place within a short period demonstrates that, if given another term, Governor Idris would deliver even greater infrastructural development and more dividends of democracy to the people of Kebbi State.
