US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of a “zero tolerance” policy over any attempt to place mines in the Strait of Hormuz, saying any vessel involved in such an operation would be “immediately and systematically destroyed.”
Trump issued the warning on Tuesday in a post on his Truth Social account after receiving a report from the United States Navy that mines in the international waters of the strategic waterway had been removed or detonated.
“I have just been informed by the United States Navy that all mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said.
He said Iran had been notified that the United States would respond immediately to any attempt to lay new mines in the waterway.
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” he warned.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial international shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Any disruption to the waterway could have significant implications for global trade and energy supplies.
Trump further claimed that the United States was closely monitoring the entire strait through the US Space Force to detect any attempts to place new mines.
“Through Space Force, we are watching every square inch of the Strait,” he said.
The US president also said the same surveillance capability was being used to monitor Pickaxe Mountain and three other nuclear sites that he described as already destroyed.
“There is a Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement in full force and effect,” Trump added.
His warning comes amid heightened tensions involving Iran and the United States, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of concern because of its importance to international maritime traffic.
