A self-acclaimed pastor, Prophet Apata Enoch, has sparked reactions on social media after advising people not to marry an “ugly person” while celebrating his wife ahead of her 50th birthday.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Enoch described his wife as beautiful and wrote that people should “open their heart and eyes” when choosing a life partner, adding that physical appearance should not be ignored because of old age.
The pastor also claimed that he once planned to marry another woman but abandoned the idea after what he described as divine guidance.
According to him, God revealed that he would not appreciate the woman in old age, prompting him to choose differently.
His comments quickly drew mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed with his opinion, many criticised the remarks as insensitive and discriminatory.
One Facebook user argued that every woman is created beautifully and that reducing a person’s worth to physical appearance contradicts Christian values.
The commenter added that women who have suffered injuries, illnesses or physical changes should not be judged by their looks.
Others maintained that beauty is subjective, with one user remarking that “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder,” while another questioned what the woman the pastor initially intended to marry might have looked like.
