The Director-General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surveyor Adamu A. Adaji, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, describing the country’s 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance as a significant milestone in its journey towards national development, unity and peaceful coexistence.
In a Democracy Day message on Friday, Adaji said the celebration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians who fought for the enthronement of democratic rule and the responsibility of citizens to sustain peace, justice and national progress.
He noted that the country’s democratic experience over the past 26 years has provided opportunities for strengthening institutions and advancing policies aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
According to him, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria continues to consolidate its democratic gains through initiatives designed to promote national integration, security and development across the federation.
The NBC boss stressed the importance of peaceful boundary management in fostering national stability and good governance, noting that the commission remains committed to resolving boundary-related disputes through dialogue and cooperation.
“At the National Boundary Commission, we recognise that peaceful boundary management remains vital to national stability, good governance and harmonious relations among communities and neighbouring countries,” he said.
Adaji added that the commission would continue to pursue the peaceful resolution of boundary issues, encourage cross-border cooperation and strengthen national unity in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the values of peace, tolerance, dialogue and patriotism, stressing that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and mutual understanding.
“As we commemorate Democracy Day, I urge all Nigerians to continue to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, dialogue and patriotism for the progress and prosperity of our beloved nation,” he said.
He wished Nigerians a happy Democracy Day and expressed optimism about the country’s democratic future and continued national development.
