More than 140 people are reported missing after an Iranian navy ship sank off the coast of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan navy says around 180 people were on board, with 32 rescued.

A spokesman told the BBC that the cause of the incident is not yet known.

Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. Israel says it has hit “security headquarters” across Tehran, as airstrikes continue in Iran.

At least 1,097 civilians have been killed in Iran since US-Israeli attacks began on Saturday, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.

The situation in Tehran is dire. “It’s getting worse and worse every day,” one man told the BBC.

A three-day funeral ceremony for ex-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, due to start this evening, has been postponed.

The violence is spreading across the region. Israel is also carrying out airstrikes in Lebanon, with the bombing campaign appearing to escalate, according to reports from Wyre Davies in Beirut.

“Who do I trust? I don’t trust anyone,” said the owner of a Lebanese hotel that was hit.

New attacks, apparently from Iran, have been reported in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

On Tuesday, a drone struck the US consulate in Dubai, while an Iranian missile hit a US base in Qatar.

In response to the escalating danger, the UK has confirmed details of a repatriation flight from Oman.

The flight will depart Muscat at 23:00 local time tonight (19:00 GMT).
