The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Rev. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has inspected equipment procured for installation at the state-owned rice mill located in Wadata, Makurdi Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a press statement by Chief Solomon Iorpev
Technical Adviser to the Benue State Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication.
According to him, this marks a significant step towards revitalizing the state’s economy and reviving small-scale industries.
The mill, built during the administration of Aminu Isa Kontagora, has been moribund and abandoned for years, suffering neglect by previous administrations.
However, with Governor Alia’s vision for a thriving economy, the mill is set to be operational once again, under the management of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
“This initiative is a deliberate effort to boost women’s participation in small-scale businesses, which are the bedrock of economies. By providing opportunities for women to thrive, Governor Alia is empowering them to contribute to the state’s economic growth and development.
“The revival of the State Rice Mill demonstrates Governor Alia’s commitment to bringing about a total turnaround in the economy of Benue State. It is a clear demonstration of his dedication to creating opportunities for women and promoting economic inclusivity,” the statement said.
Governor Alia expressed confidence that this initiative will have a significant impact on the lives of women and the overall economy of the state.
He encouraged the people of Benue to welcome this development and look forward to the benefits that will accrue from the revival of the State Rice Mill.
